Membership retention

Why most membership options are not very good and why you should avoid them?

Keeping a membership service running smoothly and your customers happy is easier said than done.

In fact almost 98 percent of all membership services fail due to lack of content, retention is the issue and few if any memberships even try to keep their members.

The idea here is to provide a user experience that is so good and so full of options that the user wants to retain the membership option.

Running a membership website with thousands and thousands of members subscribed requires a strategy that will keep them subscribed, because one of the fastest things, is no matter what you do eventually what happens is that you end up loosing most if not all of your subscribers.

keeping the website up and running does not simply start with finding people online and convincing them to join, it requires a lot of preparation along with getting them sign-up and keeping them as members.

It does not simply end there either as people have the tendency to forget about their commitments and their connection with online membership websites, often they cancel this can happen more often when the membership website is not often updated with new content as is the practice.

There are a lot of different types of membership website solutions, from wordpress plug-ins to free standing scripts.

There are usually different types of memberships for different needs.

There is the standard type which is best for small and starting membership sites. There is also the professional version which will fit larger membership sites. Your choice would depend primarily on your need so select wisely to avoid wasting your effort and money.

Membership software will also let you create default e-mail content which is typically used to send to all members in keeping them constantly in touch with their subscription.

So how do you get this right because from this perspective, it is really tough to keep subscribers coming back for more over time.

One method which is probably one of the best is to prepare content six months to one year in advance, in fact we evaluated a six week membership service, which produced video and transcripts supporting a programming environment.

We found that once per week the membership service would send out an email containing links to download the latest content.

It was informative and a very good value, however, after the initial six weeks, membership retention fell once again.

This scenario, can be demonstrated over and over again in test case after test case, even the high dollar Guru Garbage, allegedly stomper net, was allegedly included in this type of retention problem and diagnosis, even when massive amounts of money was thrown at the problem the same issue applied.

Over time we find that this case applies, even in high value, large dollar purchases, where the value is extended, the same principal applies.

Setting up a Membership Site

Thousands of websites, what makes yours better than anyone else’s?

content of course.

There are many membership website guides out there, in fact probably thousands, but which ones are really beneficial to you?

Memberships are one of the hottest digital commodities available in the marketplace.

There are some challenges to running a successful membership website and this article will try to cover some of those issues.

WordPress or Standalone Script?

WordPress is one of the most popular and arguably powerful CMS options out there today, however, it also has come weakness in several key areas.

While that is beyond the scope of this introduction to setting up a membership website, I wanted to cover some of the aspects of why WordPress may not always be the best choice.

1. Massive scaling and productivity.

Word press is fantastic for the start up and even some medium sized websites, however, for the enterprise setup; not so much, due to the many changes involved in the production of the platform scaling is a serious issue that could be better addressed by using cloud technology.

2. Security issues.

Since the platform is entirely open it is also open to hackers and attackers, this is not a good thing, for a larger network.
However, even with the risk it is worth it for the average user.

3. Custom scripting.

While you can make changes to WordPress to customize it, for your needs, the platform tends to change so rapidly that often you end up with so many changes that you have to upgrade and so you end up with more work for every upgrade you have to do.

Now, on to using WordPress for the rest of us, including me, since most of us are not enterprise users, and really dont need the kind of power and scaling that cloud computing offers the enterprise client, WordPress is an excellent choice, as long as you take into account the above problems, in advance, you can use WordPress as a stepping stone to success.

If you want to use WordPress to setup a membership website, then one of the better methods is to use a plugin.

Membership Content

Content is all about what your members want to read, see, view, or watch.

Even tutorials, on how to generate Xcode project files.

Just about every where you look you can find content but is it the content you want?

With so many advertisements, so many websites, to choose from and so little time you really hate to waste any of what time you do have.

How hard is it to build up membership content, for a website or web service?

What are some of the types of content you can find on the market today? PDF, iBooks, EPub, Video, Screencasts, Tutorials but

more importantly, what are the most popular formats for content?

Content it is really all about being creative and about how you can create.

If you want to create content on a long term basis then you will need to develop a schedule, create content on a regular basis.

For some it is now becoming more and more popular to buy that content, however, that is not always the best way, even so.

There are in fact many people that will gladly sell it to you.

Many people say that membership content is the way to go and in fact there are literally tens of thousands of such membership sites out there even now, but are they providing quality content?

Do they create content that will make you want to come back for more?

Chances are that the answer to that question is no, however, there are some sites that offer great content on a regular basis.

The quality not the quantity is where you want to look when you evaluate a membership website.

PLR content is one of the hottest membership niches going today and it is also one of the hardest ones to evaluate.
